    Addendum: The Klein actually DOES lock in the halfway open position. I did not realize that because in normal operation (flipping it out) it flips right past the halfway lock. But upon further usage I discovered that it does actually lock in that position giving it one feature that the other drivers do not have (unless you count the Lenox's strong detent in that position.)

    Milwaukee 6in1 Fastback is my favorite. Milwaukee has now replaced the wire retention ring in the 1/4" bit holder with a ball bearing type retainer. Spec ops makes a utility knife that's really thick, 2 blade storage, no driver but has a window/skull crusher point on the butt end that is just an extension of the aluminum body, not carbide or tungsten. I've carried the Spec ops quite a bit along with a small keychain prytool. But i always come back using the Milwaukee. i put a serrated blade in the Milwaukee for cutting cordage. Thank you for the review.

    Thanks for posting, Nick!
    The Hart bit storage holders look like copies of Gerbers bit holders on their earlier knives... Gerber chose a brittle plastic that would break readily.
    The Klein shorter bit holder looks like it allows for 2" bits to be used with the system, like magnetic nut drivers. That's a nice feature.

    • Best Utility Knife with Driver | Comparison of Klein, Milwaukee, Lenox, Toughbuilt, Hart (9)

      @NickDoesThings- 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I can confirm that the Klein works better by taking out the bit holder and running a 2" bit. Less slop and still long enough to easily open. None of the nut drivers that I have will fit unfortunately. But it looks like one could do it if the driver were short enough. The width could be accommodated by the cutout for the finger pull. I think I will likely shoot a followup to this video in a few weeks.

    The Lennox knife used to be my favorite for a long time. That was until I got a job where I needed one with a screwdriver. So I started my search and ended up with the Toughbuilt one. It is heavy and a little big but functionality wise it's the best. Because of its size and weight and the rectangular shaped handle it works very well as a screwdriver. The Phillips bit is also very good. Because of this you get a lot of torque for driving fastners. Even more than a regular screwdriver.

    I'm a Facilities maintenance worker, I EDC a 6 in 1 Fastback 24/7,(Swiss Champ, Knipex 5" Cobra & Pliers wrench, Kline 1/4 -3/16 flip bit & 8' tape measure) keep one in my personal truck and one in my work van. I don't see anything in the others to change that. I take the pocket clips off immediately and use Ti coated blades to prevent rust, especially in the summer when I'm landscaping 3 to 4 days a week at 19 locations around the county. Regular utility blades rust fast when drenched in sweat.

The only issue that concerns me is the plastic bit holders with spring, it just worries me that they’ll break and I can’t use the one of 4 bits. I thought I was the only one, the weight of the knife, the shape, the fast back action, it’s just perfect. Well done. Also, the magnet on my Hart is actually very strong. I want to say thank you for this. If I wouldn't have seen this I would have just jumped on this Klein blade. Not because of brand loyalty because it's orange AND a good brand name. However I would have been upset with that quality especially since my daily is the same Fastback you have in the video. I tried a similar style Husky brand without a driver. It was poorly weighted where the handle was too light and upon flipping open you could feel the knife wanting to jump out of your hand. Anyway I appreciate you saving me the money of finding out the Klein is trash as I'm the guy who would go I could use that extension for my drill I use my bit out of my Fastback in my drill all the time.

      Right on man! I’m glad I could help you decide. Unfortunately I DID jump on the Klein. I figured since they were so closely copying the fastback, that they just have improved it in some way. But sadly they did not. That said, if you regularly use the bit from your fastback in your drill then you probably would find the Klein bit holder useful. Also you can remove the bit holder all together and put in a two inch bit like we all use in our drills. For me, when I use the driver in my edc it is because I don’t have my drill handy, so the bit holder doesn’t make sense for my usage. Also I prefer to have the double sided bit like the fastback and toughbuilt. Thanks for the comment!

The Lenox gold and a similar husky version, an old fixed blade Stanley, and an assortment of cheap Amazon ones. The Milwaukee is a dream. I’m constantly taking it in and out of my pocket and it’s just super quick and handy. I also use the driver a good bit and it’s perfectly adequate-I actually tend to one hand close it as well. I’ve really strongly considered getting the toughbuilt as I have some other stuff from them I really like. Yeah, there is a line when it comes to multi tools. As soon as I start thinking about all the things I can carry in my pockets I quickly end up with too much. It’s hard to pare down from a multitool without feeling naked. lol. I ended up keeping my multitool in my backpack, that way I have it nearby if I need it. Some guys might leave it in their glove box. That said, if it doesn’t bother you to carry it, why change? For me, 90% of what I use my multitool for is cutting, screwdriver, and bottle opener of course. So I rarely feel I am missing out with the fastback. All depends on what you do from day to day. weight and size are of the utmost importance to me. if i JUST want a knife, im going to be using the small work-pro that takes up NO space, so the main part of this is the screwdriver. that said, 3 of them loose off the bat. i have been edc-ing the fastback for a few years and have only one minor complaint - ease of removing the spare blade. i have to say, watching the toughbuilt, the whole time i was just thinking "its too big" and then you touched on that at the end, but that pry-bar though.... ill probably end up picking one up and giving it a try. i dont know if the prybar is going to make up for the real estate it takes up, but its worth a go.
    one thing about the hart, i like nearly nothing about the design, other than 4 bits. i think 2 flat and 2 philips is a waste, that knife would probably be a hell of a lot better with just 1 #2 phillips, 1/4" flat, and on the other side a t-20 and t-25. they are much more needed in a pinch than a SECOND phillips ever is.

      Well said! One can ever go wrong with the fastback. When I carry it, after carrying the Toughbuilt, I do sometimes really miss that pry bar. That said I really miss the bottle opener on the fastback, especially after work! haha
      I like the 4 bit capacity on the heart, but the actual driver function is wanting. You have to have the whole knife right up on whatever you are screwing so it wont work in areas where you need any reach. That said, the 4 bit capacity is nice. I am like you, I customized the bits to better reflect the fasteners I run into day to day.

    24:24 The Hart is the same tool as Milwaukee it’s just the brand is meant for cheaper pricing and it’s commissioned by Walmart the manufacture is TTI. All HART tools are Milwaukee tools it’s just name differently just for Walmart.

      Yeah, I know TTI acquired heart a few years ago to fill out their hand-tool line. But just because the same conglomerate owns multiple brands, doesn't mean the brands are the same. Different companies with different engineers and designers using different materials to different tolerances, manufactured in different places (most typically). Half the power tools at HD are TTI, but they are still different brands whose differences are more than the color of plastic. Although, sometimes you do find some that are just a rebrand of the same product. Thats always funny. Red must be an expensive color! 🤣

    I think klein has the removable bit holder, so you could run your own 2" bit in its place. That's the only thing I can come up with as to why. It's hard to tell from the video if a 2" bit would fit. But I'd love to know. Get back to me on that.

    • Best Utility Knife with Driver | Comparison of Klein, Milwaukee, Lenox, Toughbuilt, Hart (84)

      Affirmative. Standard 2" bits fit just fine, with a little room to spare. And there is slightly less wobble when ran that way. The included bit holder seems to have very poor tolerances and accounts for much of the looseness. Also my JIS bits fit even tighter than standard American 2" bits.

    I carry the Milwaukee 6 and 1 fastback for quite some time and the only gripe ever had with it was when you would shut it. The utility knife blade would slam into the bit holder in the back because there is a gap where the blade can go through and the very back of the knife and then you would have a dull spot on your blade. So then I went to the Milwaukee compact fastback

However, mine looks like there is plenty of clearance between the bit holder and the blade. Perhaps after it wears out a bit that starts to happen. Did this happen on multiple of yours? Or could you possibly have had a defective one? Also, apparently there are a few generations of these. Do you happen to know what gen you were carrying? Maybe its something they fixed?

    Klein now makes a lot of stuff in China.
    It is likely marketed toward electricians.
    The impact rated stuff is likely because everything is becoming impact rated. Why make 2 kinds?
    Also, it is replaceable if you can grab it off the shelf if you lose or break it.
    The Hart one is the same no name design that you can get at Tractor Supply every now and again in the bargain bin.

    • Best Utility Knife with Driver | Comparison of Klein, Milwaukee, Lenox, Toughbuilt, Hart (136)

      @NickDoesThings- 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oh yeah, definitely made in overseas. Though, despite the fact that Klein is a brand geared more towards electricians, the only tool in this video that one of the companies specifically says is for electricians is the Toughbuilt. It's called the "Electricians 5-in-1." I really think the Klein is going after some of the marketshare of the Fastback.
      As to the bit holder theory, good paint, companies should probably just go with all impact rated stuff these days. However it might not show from the video, but that bit driver is very small. I have never seen another one that small. So it would be hard to replace. And if you put a standard bit holder in it, it is too long and wont close when carrying a bit. I am going to do a follow up to this video in a few weeks discussing this stuff a bit more and brining up some of the comments. Thanks for weighing in. Curious if you have any other thoughts?

      @NickDoesThings- 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thats a great question. Unfortunately I don't have one to try out. I think, because it is flat, having a strong magnet would be important. The fastback uses a retention device so it doesn't have a strong mag. If you take the bit driver out of the Klein and use your bit insert in ints place, you would have a bag but it is pretty shallow. The Toughbuilt doesn't have a very strong mag, however, the insert goes down much deeper than the other drivers so It would probably give the most surface area contact for your flat insert. I would say Klean, or Toughbuilt. I wish I could say more but that is just a guess.

      Probably true. I think the Kershaw is better though, because of the foldout bit holder. I may do a video in the future about standard knives that have drivers.

      @NickDoesThings- gunna have to keep an eye out for that. The ones I have use a little retaining ring, bits constantly falling out.

      Sure thing man! You can just google “Toughbuilt 5-in-1 electricians utility knife” and you should pull it up easily. Although it looks as like it may only be available at Lowe’s.

      Haha, right on. I have dress up carries as well. For me, it’s not about the weight of the Toighbuilt, I do t notice it really, it’s more about the bulk. It work okay in the write size of pocket but I am not carrying it much on regular days.

      @NickDoesThings- no, they have a slot in center, but I found some on Amazon. My lowes didn't have any. Also, I bought that toughbuilt knife today, and now see what you're saying about the bulk, but I'm going to give it a try this week. I bet I go back to the milwaukee. One thing I don't like already is the screwdriver head flys out the magnet isn't strong enough.

      @@NickDoesThings- they don't have one with a driver but they have a three pack of knives that are alot like the original Fastback only a little better and you get three for like $17

      @@user-vk4lh6ub1j cant beat that price! I think I know the ones you are talking about. Are they really small? I have a few really small ones myself. I cary them when I have to dress nice so the knife needs to be inconspicuous. But on a day when I am working, I prefer to have a knife that I can grab with my whole hand and put through heavy work if I need. I have way to many knives! What I cary just depends on what I am doing that day. I will probably do a video on smaller knives. If I do I will be sure to include the workpro.
