OverLabor Day weekend, many Americans will labor over a grill orchestrating aholiday cookout. But if that's not how you want to celebrate, there are plenty of restaurant deals to enjoy, too!

Labor Day is always celebrated on the first Monday of September, which this year falls on Sept. 2. While it's known today as a weekend honoring hard-working spirits and the last summer gathering, its roots trace back to the U.S. labor movement in the 19th century.

While a handful of institutions like banks and USPS will be closed for the federal holiday, most restaurants will remain open for business. If you aren't sure if a particular eatery is open, it's a good idea to look online for closures or reduced hours on Monday.

Two-thirds of Americans (67%) plan to celebrate the Labor Day holiday, according to a survey of 1,059 U.S. consumers conducted by research firmNumerator. Grilling is the favored Labor Day weekend activity (63% say they they will), followed by gathering with friends and family (58% plan to), and cooking or baking at home (32%).

If grilling — or cooking in general — isn't really your thing, there's no need to worry. Some restaurants will not only be open for Labor Day but are also offering special deals to help you celebrate.
