Labor Day weekend is upon us, and as some businesses close, many restaurants remain open — some offering special deals.
Labor Day, which celebrates the labor movement's achievements in America, started in 1882 in New York when 10,000 workers marched from City Hall to Union Square. Though New York had the first bill to recognize Labor Day, Oregon was the first to pass the law in 1887, but it took until 1894 for it to become federally recognized. The holiday falls on the first Monday of September, which this year is Sept. 2.
For those who are not barbecuing or baking at home, a few restaurants and coffee shops are offering deals for the weekend. Here's where to score freebies, deals and discounts around metro Phoenix.
